Career Programs and Services

Our Career Development Coordinators can connect you with a number of career programs and services to help you reach your career goals. Below are some of the programs and services available, but we encourage you to connect with a Career Development Coordinator first to better explore what is available for you.  
 

1.   Career Counselling 

Career Counselling can help you to know and understand yourself and the world of work so you can make good career, educational and life decisions. Career counselling can help you: 

  • Assess your strengths, skills, education and experience
  • Identify areas of potential
  • Consider various Career options
  • Explore industry trends and hiring practices
  • Research job opportunities and employers
  • Develop your resume, cover letter and prepare for interviews
  • Find new employment or explore a change in career
  • Developing a new career path and action plan 

 

2.  Skills Development & Training 

a)   Training Programs 

Career Development offers training programs in Behchokǫ̀, Whatı̀, Gamètı̀ and Wekweètı̀ for Tłı̨chǫ Citizens. Core programming is offered frequently within the Tłı̨chǫ Region to ensure Tłı̨chǫ Citizens have access to skill development. 

b)   Individual Skills Development 

Career Development offers funding support to Tłı̨chǫ Citizens on an individual basis for training and skill development. Please make an appointment with a Career Development Coordinator to find out more. 

Our Career Development Coordinators can help you understand Skills Development Programming requirements and they will work with you and identify services and programs that best fits your needs. 

  

3. Job-Start Support Funding 

Career Development provides funding to Tłı̨chǫ Citizens to help you pay for the costs of starting a job. Buying new equipment and getting paperwork filled out can cost money, and if you cannot afford it we may be able to help.    

a)   Workwear and Work Gear Program 

Career Development provides funding to Tłı̨chǫ Citizens living in Behchokǫ̀, Whatı̀, Gamètı̀ and Wekweètı̀ to help pay for buying safety gear, tools, or work clothing needed to be properly equipped for employment. To be eligible for funding, clients must provide: 

  • A quote from vendor listing the most affordable option for the equipment or clothing or receipts showing the purchase of the equipment (if the client wishes to be reimbursed); and  

  • A letter or email from employer listing the required clothing, gear, or equipment and employment start date. 

  

b)  Employment Health Exam Program 

Career Development provides funding support for mandatory employment health examinations or inquiries required for gaining employment. Client must provide: 

  • A letter or email from employer listing required paperwork and employment start date; and  

  • Receipts for the fees paid and then the client will be reimbursed.  

  

4.  Apprenticeship Programs  

If you are a Tłı̨chǫ Citizens living in Behchokǫ̀, Whatı̀, Gamètı̀ and Wekweètı̀ and are interested in or already in an apprenticeship program, a Career Development Coordinator can help connect you with funding support and offer career support and counselling. Some examples of the services a Career Development Coordinator can provide are:  

  • Networking with employers 

  • Matching employers and apprentices 

  • Assisting Tłı̨chǫ Citizens to find support in the pursuit of apprenticeship; and  

  • Connecting Tłı̨chǫ Citizens to apprenticeship programs.  

 

5.  Referrals 

Career Development Coordinators can help make referrals to other Tłı̨chǫ Government divisions and other agencies and organizations if you need support and services and fall outside what we offer.
