Dǫ Nàke Làànı̀ Nàts’etso Bursary

If a student is eligible for Government of Northwest Territories Student Financial Assistance (GNWT SFA) - the student is strongly encouraged to apply for SFA first before applying to the Dǫ Nàke Làànı̀ Nàts’etso Bursary.

Eligibility

To get the Dǫ Nàke Làànı̀ Nàts’etso Bursary, a student must:

  • Be a member of one of the former Tłı̨chǫ First Nations Bands of Dechi Laot’i First Nation, Gamètì First Nation, Whatì First Nation or Dogrib Rae Band.
  • Have been considered ineligible to receive the GNWT Student Financial Aid (SFA) grants.
  • Currently not be receiving funding from other Indigenous organizations for books, tuition, or living expense.
  • Be attending an approved program at an eligible institution OR attending an upgrading course (university and college preparation courses are eligible for a maximum of one year funding); and
  • Be attending school Full-Time or Part-Time (more on the funding breakdown for full and part time students is below).

To get the Dǫ Nàke Làànı̀ Nàts’etso Bursary, a student MUST provide the Tłı̨chǫ Government’s Post-Secondary Program with:

  1. A letter from SFA denying the student the basic and supplemental grants; or
  2. Evidence that the student has not received funding from an equivalent Indigenous student financial assistance program.

If a student’s permanent residence is the NWT, the student will be asked to provide a letter from GNWT SFA denying the student funding because the student is ineligible. If a student is denied SFA because the student owes GNWT SFA money or documents only, the student is not eligible to apply for the bursary.

If a student’s permanent residence is outside of the NWT, the student will be asked whether or not the student has applied for other funding and will need to provide all acceptance and denial letters. The student will also be asked to sign a letter confirming that the student is not eligible for GNWT SFA and has not received funding from any equivalent Indigenous student financial assistance program.
