Summary

Tłı̨chǫ Government would like to recognize people, organizations and companies who have made outstanding contributions or accomplishments which best reflect the Tłı̨chǫ way of life.   

Purpose  

Tłı̨chǫ Government Awards recognizes and celebrates the accomplishments of remarkable individuals/companies/organizations to protecting, preserving and enhancing the Tłı̨chǫ Way of Life.

Who is eligible?

Individuals nominated must be:

  • An Northwest Territories -registered company, organization or individual;
  • A resident of Canada.

Please note the following:

  • Youth achiever nominees must be 15 – 29 years of age. 
  • Nominations of deceased persons are accepted for all eight categories.
  • Self-nominations are not accepted.
  • Nominations are not accepted for elected Chiefs and Council. Including federal, provincial, or municipal representatives while they are in office; or the selection committee appointees.

Categories

Awards are given out in following nine award categories:

  1. Active Living & Cultural Skills
    Honours active healthy life style.
    Honours sharing their cultural skills. This award recognizes individuals who have promoted and assisted in the development of hunting, trapping, and traditional skills.
  2. Arts & Language
    Honours Traditional and Contemporary talent. The award is given to an Individual who has demonstrated their dedication and commitment to preserve traditional and contemporary art.
    Honours the promotion, preservation, education and teaching of the Tłı̨chǫ Language.
  3. Business & Commerce, Environment & Natural Resources
    Honours the encouragement, and promotion of the interests of the Tłı̨chǫ engaged in business and professions. 
  4. Culture, Heritage & Spirituality
    Honours the preservation, promotion, education and teaching the Tłı̨chǫ culture, heritage and spirituality.
  5. Education & Health
    Honours the strong commitment, competence and sensitivity in the education field, and whose accomplishments have improved educational opportunities for Tłı̨chǫ Citizens.
    Honours the strong commitment, competence and sensitivity in the health fields, whose accomplishments have improved health care for the Tłı̨chǫ Nation. 
  6. Public service, Politics, law, & Justice
    Honours the dedication, competence and sensitivity in the area of public service. This award recognizes individuals who have promoted and assisted in the development of their community, or whose accomplishments and leadership qualities have most directly affected and benefited the Tłı̨chǫ people.
  7. Lifetime Achievement Award
    Honours individuals of outstanding accomplishments.
  8. Sports
     Athletes, coaches, etc., who have been a positive role model for the Tłı̨chǫ.
  9. Youth
    Individual between 15-29 years old who has been a positive role model for the Tłı̨chǫ. 

How do I nominate someone?

You can nominate by downloading the form, completing it and providing two letters of support and mailing it in. If you’re unable to download the form, please contact us at info[at]tlicho[dot]com.

Please note that elected Grand Chief, Chiefs, and Council cannot provide letters of support.

When is the deadline?

 The deadline is March 31st each year. If March 31st falls on a weekend or holiday, nominations are accepted the following business day.

Nominations may be submitted at any time. Eligible nominations received after the deadline will be considered for the following year.

How are recipients selected?

A selection committee appointed by the Chief Executive Council (CEC) reviews the nominations and recommends the candidates to the CEC.

Will this be public?

The achievements of all individuals are presented at a public ceremony and promoted on the Tlicho.ca.

What will the award recipients receive?

Honoured recipients will receive a medal and a framed certificate of Achievement signed by CEC as recognition.
