We are looking for Tlicho Community members to JOIN an ADVISORY COMMITTEE for the Tłı̨chǫ Government Early Childhood Program.
We are developing a culturally-appropriate Tłı̨chǫ Early Childhood course and materials that combine community knowledge about birth and child-rearing with non-Indigenous child development theory.
The course and materials will be used by professionals working with children and families for the Tłı̨chǫ Government Early Childhood Program. The course includes videos of interviews with Elders and early learning experts so learners and program participants see themselves, their knowledge, and their culture reflected in the material.
The goal of the committee is to guide the cultural adaptation process, ensuring that Tłı̨chǫ teachings on the prenatal period and child rearing are included.
The Tłı̨chǫ Government has partnered with the Martin Family Initiative Early Years to create training and resources that reflect the community's ways of knowing, being and caring for children. These resources will support Tłı̨chǫ staff, early learning professionals and community members in their work with children and families.
The Martin Family Initiative (MFI) Early Years program supports Indigenous parents as their children's first and best teachers. Strong Indigenous families and communities promote healthy child development, protect cultural identity and ensure a good future. The Early Years partners with Indigenous-led organizations to co-develop culturally grounded programming and resources.
If are interested in joining the advisory committee or have any questions, please contact Noelene Bishop-Nitsiza, Manager, Early Childhood & Family Programs at [email protected].
