Culture & Lands Protection

Cultural Practices - Promoting Tłı̨chǫ Way of Life

Lands Protection - The Lands Protection Section is responsible for managing the 39,000 square kilometres of Tłı̨chǫ-owned  Land, including its surface and sub-surface resources.  To manage this, the department works closely with numerous environmental agencies, government agencies, resource development companies and the Tłı̨chǫ Assembly, thus helping to serve and protect Tłı̨chǫ Lands.

Research & Monitoring (Tłı̨chǫ Research & Training Institute)

The Tłı̨chǫ Government has launched Gowhahdǫǫ Gits’ǫ Etǫ Nıwheɂàa (See the Trails of our Ancestors), an interactive, 3D, digital map focused on gathering and sharing Tłı̨chǫ history and culture. The map allows users to travel our land virtually and visit culturally and historically significant sites, hear stories from our Elders, and learn about our culture, language, and history.

Gowhahdǫǫ Gits’ǫ Etǫ Nıwheɂàa showcases important locations along the trails between the communities of  Behchokǫ̀ and Whatı̀ that have been identified by Elders in the two communities, as significant.

Experience the virtual trails in English, French, and Tłı̨chǫ Yatıì at https://tlichovirtualtrails.ca/

Masi Cho to all Elders, on-the-land guides, filmmakers, web designers, and Tłı̨chǫ Government staff for your hard work and dedication to this project and to Digital Museums Canada, whose generous funding support made this project possible.
