On, Tuesday, July 19, the Honourable Carolyn Bennett, Minister of Indigenous and Northern Affairs, MP Michael McLeod, met with Chief Clifford Daniels of Behchokǫ̀, representative of the Tłįchǫ Government.
Minister was greeted with a prayer song and gifts were exchanged. Moosehide moccasins made by Tłįchǫ Elder, Melanie Weyallon from Behchokǫ̀ for the Minister, and painting by Fran Hurcomb presented on behalf of the Government of Canada to the Tłįchǫ Government in recognition of the 10th Anniversary of the Tłįchǫ Agreement.
Discussion included Tłįchǫ All Season Road, the state of the Tłįchǫ Nation followed by a community tour of Behchokǫ̀ and visit to the Tłįchǫ Imbe Program cultural learning program for senior high school and post-secondary students. The Įmbè program connects young people with Elder to help insure that Tłįchǫ language and culture are passed on to future generations.
