Dr. Ernest Jarman's children visit Behchoko
From 1954 to 1956 Dr. Ernest Jarman lived in Behchoko working at the Faraud Hospital.  His Children Mike Jarman, Marney Jarman Bethell and Susan Jarman Scott travelled to Behchoko 61 years later since they first moved to Behchoko to gift the Tlicho people their family treasures, two parkas, an embroidered baby belt, an arctic fox pelt and a dog whip.  These items were all made by people in the Community of Rae, in 1954.

Tony Rabesca, Manager of Cultural Practises, Department of Culture & Lands Protection of the Tlicho Government greeted Michael, Marney, and Susan, who arrived in Behchoko on July 4th.   Children of Dr. Jarman visited community members at Russell Lake Spiritual Gathering.  Many of the elders remember the good Doctor.

Later in the day at the Behchoko Cultural Centre, Michael, Marney, and Susan presented their gifts, and DVD of photos taken from 1954 to 1956 of the Tlicho people.

In email written by Dr. Jarman he said “Personally, it was very gratifying to me that the family snaps I took incidental to my stay there were of such interest today to quite a few of the community.”

Children of Dr. Jarman also met with Terri Nasksan, the daughter Joe Nasken, who worked Dr. Jarman.  “Joe did a remarkably good job for me, especially at a time when TB was such a serious health problem, and it was so hard to explain that something invisible was responsible for the very unwelcome hospitalization of so many of your (and also my) ancestors.  And he certainly helped me understand a lot of the differences in our cultures,” said Dr. Jarman.
