Community Volunteer Income Tax Program Success!

The Community Volunteer Income Tax Program (CVITP) is making a big impact in Tłı̨chǫ communities by training volunteers to help residents file their taxes for free! With support from De Beers Canada and the Canada Revenue Agency, 13 volunteers were trained this year, with clinics held across Behchokǫ̀, Whatì, Gamètì, and Wekweètì.

From 2025, the program helped 325 citizens, doubling last year's numbers, with 312 returns filed electronically by the end of April. Jim Stauffer, the primary volunteer, and Susan Simpson, Manager of Economic Development, highlight the program's importance in overcoming barriers for access to federal and territorial programs.

To thank them, each volunteer will receive a beautiful blanket featuring art from Tłı̨chǫ Arts’ 2024 Feature Artist, James Wedzin.

A huge thanks to all volunteers for their hard work and dedication.
