Under the direction of the Manager of Community Care, the Community Youth and Elder Support Workers play important roles; bridging gaps with services, addressing unique challenges, promoting the well-being and cultural preservation of Tłı̨chǫ citizens with a particular focus on needs of youth and elders; serves as first point of contact, act as a liaison and provides holistic support and assistance with cultural sensitivity and a commitment to empowering and advocating for their needs and concerns and enhancing quality of life for our residents and citizens within the Tłı̨chǫ communities and Yellowknife, and must follow applicable Tłı̨chǫ Government Administrative Policies and Procedures.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS REQUIRED:
- College diploma/university degree in a health or social services related programs
- Minimum 3 years of work experiences in a related field
- Familiarity with the Tłı̨chǫ language, culture and way of life
- Demonstrated ability in written, oral and interpersonal communication skills in English
- Basic computer skills
- Satisfactory criminal record check with vulnerable sector check
- Valid First Aid/CPR Certificate
- Valid Driver’s License
- Ability to use/speak the English and Tłı̨chǫ languages is an asset
