Gamètı̀ and Wekweètı̀ Winter Roads Open
Both the Gamètı̀ Winter Road and the Wekweètı̀ Winter Road will be open 24 HOURS TRAVEL effective SATURDAY MARCH 25, 2023 at 10:00 AM MST.
Please note, due to a warming trend anticipated for early next week, it is likely both winter roads will be RESTRICTED TO NIGHT TIME TRAVEL ONLY as of TUESDAY MARCH 28, 2023 at 10:00 AM MST. We will provide a further update at that time.
The Gamètı̀ Winter Road remains open to 32,000 kilograms Gross Vehicle Weight.
- Traffic flow will be reduced to a single lane only at KM 62 on the North end of Hislop Lake for approximately 300 meters. Please use extra caution in this area.
- Commercial fuel re-supply to the Community of Gamètì has commenced.
- Please use extra caution when traveling on Portages;
- Please be patient when meeting heavy transport trucks and give them as much room as possible.
- Please watch for rough areas on portages and lakes; slow down when meeting oncoming traffic;
- Watch for soft areas along edges on portage’s;
- Watch for pressure ridges on Sarah and Faber Lakes;
- Watch and slow down for construction and maintenance equipment working along all sections of the winter road;
- Please note the maximum speed limit throughout the Tłįchǫ Winter Road system is 50 Km/h;
- The maximum speed limit for commercial loads on all water bodies is 30 Km/h;
- All commercial traffic is requested to call Portage numbers on Public channel Ladd 1.
The Wekweètı̀ Winter Road remains open to 12,000 kilograms Gross Vehicle Weight.
- The allowance for only high clearance 4x4 vehicle has been lifted.
- Please watch for rough areas on portages and lakes; slow down when meeting oncoming traffic;
- Watch for a short section of single lane traffic at Portage 229 (Km 78 area).
- Watch for men and equipment actively working between Portages 247 to 251. Anticipate short delays
- Watch and slow down for construction and maintenance equipment working along all sections of the winter road;
- Please note the maximum speed limit throughout the Tłįchǫ Winter Road system is 50 Km/h;
