The 8th Session of the 5th Tłıc̨hǫ Assembly is scheduled to take place in Behchokǫ̀, November 23-24, 2022 in the gymnasium at the Kǫ̀ Gocho Sportsplex. The 8th Session begins at 1:30 p.m. November 23rd and will concludes the next day.
The Tłıc̨hǫ negotiated comprehensive land claims and self-government agreement (“Tłıc̨hǫ Agreement”) in which the Tłıc̨hǫ have complete ownership of 39,000 square kilometers of land (surface and sub-surface), self–government powers and management of resources. The principle and objectives of the Tłıchǫ̨ Agreement are to protect, promote and enhance Tłıchǫ̨ language, culture and way of life. The Tłıchǫ̨ Agreement became effective on August 4, 2005.
The Tłıc̨hǫ Assembly has the responsibility and authority to implement the Tłıc̨hǫ Agreement and to protect and ensure good governance of the Tłıc̨hǫ Government and its rights, titles, and interests. The Tłıc̨hǫ Assembly may enact Tłıc̨hǫ laws for these purposes and in relation to all matters for which the Tłıc̨hǫ Government has authority pursuant to the Tłıc̨hǫ inherent right of self-government and the Tłıc̨hǫ Agreement.
The Tłıc̨hǫ Nation is composed of four communities – Behchokǫ̀, Whatì, Gamètì and Wekweètì.
The Tłıc̨hǫ Assembly is formed on the principle of equal representation from each Tłıc̨hǫ community and includes the Grand Chief, the Chief of each Tłıc̨hǫ community and two (2) councillors from each Tłıc̨hǫ community.
After the 8th Session of the 5th Tłıc̨ hǫ Assembly concludes in Behchokǫ̀, the next scheduled Session dates and communities are:
- February 14-16, 2023 - Whatì
- May 30 – June 1, 2023 - Gamètì.
