May 20 to 26 is National Public Works Week and on May 22nd, the Behchokǫ̀ Public Works Staff celebrated by BBQ’s 168 hamburgers and 150 hot dogs for the public.
Says Lawrence Kotchilea, Public Works Foreman for Behchokǫ̀,
“Our Public Works crews are proud of the service they provide in our community. This BBQ was an opportunity for everyone to get together, to meet as coworkers and residents, and to just have some fun.”
Says Chief Clifford Daniels,
“The Behchokǫ̀ Public Works Department is often called upon first when there is an emergency, like a water line break, a road washed out, or a heavy snowfall that restricts the travel of our residents. We recognize that we have dedicated staff, so Council was pleased to recognize their efforts and proclaim May 20th to 26th as Behchokǫ̀ Public Works Week.”
Behchokǫ̀ Public Works Department provides services to three communities within the Behchokǫ̀ boundary: Rae, Frank Channel, and Edzo. Staff support two water treatment plants, two wastewater systems, solid waste disposal, trucked water delivery and sewage collection, as well as maintain the roads, trails, and green areas.
Says Chief Daniels,
“Each year, for the last 5 or 6 years, our Public Works Department has completed extra work to beautify our community. I’m proud of the work that they work to accomplish to make Behchokǫ̀ home to our 2,500+ residents.”
