Behchokǫ̀ has New Solar System Installed
News Release - August 18, 2016 - Behchokǫ̀, Northwest Territories
The Community Government of Behchokǫ̀ recently had a new solar system installation completed.
Says Chief Clifford Daniels, “Thanks to the funding assistance from the Federal DIAND, the Federal Gas Tax Fund and GNWT Community Public Infrastructure (CPI) funding, we have contracted Green SunRising to supply & install a 22 kWh system on our Sports-Plex Building.
We hope to significantly off-set the operating costs for our new community facility. There is certainly nothing wrong with Behchokǫ̀ becoming a regional leader in the use of energy-efficient technology, so Chief and Council are looking at other similar opportunities for the future.”
Behchokǫ̀ is expecting to host an open house within the next 6 to 8 weeks, as there is phased-in use of their huge facility. The Community Government of Behchokǫ̀ offices are expected to occupied first, with the youth centre, gymnasium, artificial-ice arena, restaurant, fitness and meeting rooms are completed and become ready for use.
“Although Chief and Council haven’t confirmed the formal name of the Sports-Plex Building yet, it is a beautiful building and we are confident that it will become a show-piece for the community of Behchokǫ̀ as well as the Tłı̨chǫ Region” says Chief Daniels.
