On behalf of the staff at Elizabeth Mackenzie Elementary School, I am happy to welcome you to the 2018-2019 school year! We are looking forward to a productive partnership with you to ensure our children can achieve their highest potential. We recognize that in order to be successful in school, our children need support from both home and school. We know a strong partnership with you will make a great difference in your child’s education. As partners, we share the responsibility for our children’s success and want you to know that we will do our very best to carry out our responsibilities. We ask that you guide and support your child’s learning by ensuring that he/she:
- Attends school daily and arrives on time, ready for the day’s learning experience
- Reads daily to develop a love for reading and to improve literacy skills
- Shares school experiences with you so that you are aware of his/her school life
- Informs you if he/she needs additional support in any area or subject
Please consider joining our school volunteer program as our students can greatly benefit from your involvement and contributions to school programs. We seek volunteers to help us with the following activities:
- Teacher-led instructional support, usually in the classroom
- Reading with children who need extra help
- Daily breakfast Program
I would also like to remind parents that school starts at 8:50am and 1:00pm. Parents can drop students off at the school at 8:35am and 12:45pm. There are no adults on duty prior to these times so please be aware of this when you are dropping your child off at school. All students return home for lunch between 12pm and 1pm.
Here is our weekly calendar:
- Monday: 8:50 am to 3:35 pm
- Tuesday: 8:50 am to 3:35 pm
- Wednesday: 8:50 am to 3:35 pm
- Thursday: 8:50 am to 2:30 pm
- Friday: 8:50 am to 3:35 pm
***Please notice the change in our weekly schedule on Thursday. There will be classes from 1pm to 2:30pm on Thursdays.
EMES is also a personal device (Ipad, Ipod) free school. We ask that parents make sure that their children do not bring these devices into the school. Currently at the school, we have laptops and Ipads for the students to use. Therefore, there is never a need for your child to bring their device to school.
We require that all students have indoor shoes. This is a safety issue because we don’t want students in the gym with only their socks (they could slip and fall). Also, there may be a time that we need to evacuate the school (fire, etc) and students need to have shoes on their feet at all times.
Please ensure that your child is dressed appropriately for the weather. The weather is starting to change and it is getting colder outside. Students go outside for recess each day and need to be dressed appropriately for the weather.
We also require a home phone number so that we are able to contact you when necessary. Please make sure that you contact Leona in the office and give her this information.
Please phone us at the school (867) 392-6078 if you have any questions or concerns.
Masi,
John Gouthro
