There are 25 creative and original designs in the first edition of the Tłı̨chǫ Student Artist’s Colouring book, created by former Tłı̨chǫ high school students from Chief Jimmy Bruneau School in Behchokǫ̀. Now available for purchase, the colouring book is dedicated to the Tłı̨chǫ women whose beadwork, embroidery and traditional sewing inspire many young artists, and encourage the tradition of gifting family and friends with hand sewn and beautifully decorated traditional clothing.
Publisher, Virga Books, is owned by Crystal (Forbes) Salamon, who grew up in Hay River, NT, and was a former student of the colouring project coordinator, Karen Gelderman. Crystal, a best-selling adult colouring book author and art instructor, is a passionate advocate for colouring’s ability to encourage mindfulness, balance and well-being.
Supported by the Tłı̨chǫ Government, Department of Culture and Lands Protection, the colouring books have been distributed to homes in the Tłı̨chǫ region and are available for sale ($11.99 +tax) through the Tłı̨chǫ Online Store, at the Down to Earth Gallery in Yellowknife and at the Tłı̨chǫ Arts Holiday Sale and Showcase, November 19, 2022, at the Tree of Peace, Yellowknife.
Proceeds from the purchase of these colouring books support school arts programming in the Tłı̨chǫ region.
