Gamètì Northern Farm Training Workshop

Client Services Department held a Garden Planning Workshop training opportunity for the residents of Gamètì, on January 23, 2019.  

During the workshop, there were 16 students, 2 teachers, and 3 community members who participated overall. The morning session, included the participation of the students from the Jean Wetrade School.

Workshop included presentation by Jackie Milne, from the Northern Farm Training Institute (NFTI), shared information about Internship and Training Opportunities at the Farm Campus in Hay River, NT

The topics of discussion included:

  • Tips for planning your own home garden
  • building your own greenhouse, market garden business
  • garden design for the north
  •  selecting seeds
  • soil, and building soil fertility

The event was made possible with funding by the Government of Canada's Skills and Partnership Fund in Partnership (SPF) with the Tłı̨chǫ Government’s Client Services Department.

Workshops that took place are in:

  • Whatì: January 16, 2019
  • Gamètì: January 23 & 24 2019
  • Behchokǫ̀: February 6, 2019
  • Wekweètı̀: February 13, 2019

The information shared during this workshop will be used to create specialized training manuals for the Tlicho Communities and used as part of the upcoming Farm Training being provided through Client Services and NFTI.
