The 7th Session of the 5th Tłı̨chǫ Assembly will take place in Wekweètì, September 21-22, 2022.
The Tłı̨chǫ negotiated a comprehensive land claims and self-government agreement (“Tłı̨chǫAgreement”) in which the Tłı̨chǫ have complete ownership of 39,000 square kilometers of land (surface and sub-surface), self–government powers and management of resources. The principle and objectives of the Tłıch̨ǫ Agreement are to protect, promote and enhance Tłıch̨ǫ language, culture and way of life. The Tłıch̨ǫ Agreement became effective on August 4, 2005.
The Tłı̨chǫ Assembly has the responsibility and authority to implement the Tłı̨chǫ Agreement and to protect and ensure good government of the Tłı̨chǫ Government and its rights, titles, and interests. The Tłı̨chǫ Assembly may enact Tłı̨chǫ laws for these purposes and in relation to all matters for which the Tłı̨chǫ Government has authority pursuant to the Tłı̨chǫ inherent right of self- government and the Tłı̨chǫ Agreement.
The Tłı̨chǫ Nation is composed of four communities – Behchokǫ̀, Whatì, Gamètì and Wekweètì.
The Tłı̨chǫ Assembly is formed on the principle of equal representation from each Tłı̨chǫ community and includes the Grand Chief, the Chief of each Tłı̨chǫ community and two (2) councillors from each Tłı̨chǫ community.
After the 7th Session of the 5th Tłı̨chǫ Assembly concludes in Wekweètì, the next scheduled Session dates and communities are:
November 22-24, 2022 - Behchokǫ̀
February 14-16, 2023 - Whatì
May 30 – June 1, 2023 - Gamètì.
