2018 International Indigenous Tourism Conference

Last week from October 30 and 31, 2018 staff from Client Services Department attended the International Indigenous Tourism Conference (IITC) in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan on Treaty 6 Territory and the Homeland of the Métis.

IITC brings together people interested and invested in creating and contributing towards a growing Indigenous tourism industry in Canada and around the world. This year, the ITAC hosted the 7th annual International Indigenous Tourism Conference.

The theme of the conference was The Indigenous Tourism Economy: Learning Together and Sharing our Stories. Indigenous tourism has the power to change perspectives, preserve culture, language and community and provide our relatives with a platform to be the leading voice in reclaiming our space in history - both ancient and modern.

The ITAC recognizes and supports Indigenous communities and entrepreneurs to lead the way in telling the stories of their people and land to visitors, and the IITC is one way ITAC brings tourism to the forefront of economic development portfolios.
