LET'S BE FIRE SMART

Below are just a few of the tips you can practice to keep your campsite and communities Fire Safe.

Clear vegetation: Remove dry grass, leaves, and debris from around your campsite. This reduces the risk of fire ignition and helps create a defensible space.

Campfire safety: If you plan to have a campfire, use a designated fire pit or ring away from overhanging branches or dry vegetation. Never leave a campfire unattended and ensure it is completely extinguished before leaving.

Equipment safety: Use caution when operating equipment that can produce sparks or flames, such as stoves, lanterns, and power tools.

Be aware of fire restrictions: Stay informed about any fire restrictions or bans in the area you will be visiting. Follow the local guidelines and regulations to prevent wildfires.

Properly dispose of cigarettes: If you smoke, make sure to properly extinguish and dispose of cigarette butts in designated containers. Never throw them on the ground.

Report wildfires: If you spot a wildfire or signs of smoke, report it immediately to the appropriate authorities. Time is crucial in controlling wildfires.

Be prepared: Carry appropriate fire safety equipment, such as a fire extinguisher, shovel, and water, to respond quickly to small fires and prevent them from spreading.

Fire safety is everyone’s responsibility. By being proactive, aware, and prepared, you can help protect yourself, others, and the land from the risk of wildfires.
