MacEwan University School of Continuing Education is partnering with Client Services of the Tłı̨chǫ Government to provide professional development and preparation courses for individuals in the Northwest Territories.
This partnership aims to enhance the Post-Secondary program by providing:
- Professional development certificates in the areas of Leadership, Management and Supervision, and Photography to members of the Tlicho community who are interested in advancing their knowledge and experience in these areas.
- Foundational courses for students interested in pursuing post-secondary in the future that are centered around success in higher education and University level Indigenous studies.
MacEwan University provides students with a transformative, academically rigorous personal learning experience in a creative, collaborative, and supportive learning environment.
PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT CERTIFICATES:
- Leadership Certificate - Starts February 8 (Deadline to apply - January 17)
Learn how to build upon your natural leadership abilities and become effective in leading and inspiring others. Upon completion of this program, you will emerge with your own leadership philosophy and action plan to guide you in achieving personal and professional success.

This virtual information session will be held on January 13th at 3pm MST. Register on Zoom
- Management and Supervision Certificate - Starts April 5 (Deadline to apply - March 14)
In this program, you will develop essential skills for enhancing your ability to engage your team, make decisions, problem solve, handle conflict and communicate effectively.
- Digital Photography Certificate - Starts May 30 (Deadline to apply - May 9)
In this program, you will learn how to see with a photographer's eye, capture the world around you, improve your personal style and photographic compositions, learn the history of photography and gain an understanding of current day advances to the medium. Digital SLR cameras will be available for students to use in class.
PREPARATION AND INDIGENOUS STUDIES COURSES:
- Foundations 101 - Spring and Fall 2022
This course provides students with academic awareness and competence in three specific areas: strategy skills and knowledge, intercultural identity and awareness, and technological tools and communication.
- Indigenous 100 - Spring and Fall 2022
This course seeks to introduce students to various aspects of Indigenous Studies: historical, sociological, oral, and literary. Students develop critical thinking and writing skills applicable across the university curriculum through intensive reading and analysis of specifically Indigenous writers and various texts/documents related to Indigenous Studies.
- Indigenous 200 - Spring and Fall 2022
This course provides students with a detailed examination into the historical and contemporary issues and circumstances of Indigenous Peoples. The course will be grounded through an Indigenous lens, providing Indigenous narratives on identity, Indigenous feminism, sustainability, and the dismantling of common myths and stereotypes surrounding Indigenous peoples.

PROGRAM ELIGIBILITY
- Learners must be Treaty Status holders from (Behchokǫ̀, Whatı̀, Gamètı̀ & Whatı̀) to register for the programs listed above.
Funding is provided by the Tłı̨chǫ Government for the delivery of these programs and courses. There is a limited number of seats available so we encourage students to apply early. All applications will be assessed by the ONE Student Financial Support Program.

To apply for the program students must contact the Tlicho Government at t[email protected] to receive application documents. Please refer to the course or program of your interest.
Step 4: Accessing your course
MacEwan University will be in contact with you on the next steps to accessing your course. You will receive communications about student expectations, how to use the online learning system and any other student resources.
