LING 159 Language Course

The Tłı̨chǫ Government’s language division hosted a 5 day LING159 (Indigenous Language 1) course in partnership with the University of Victoria. This course held at the Sportsplex was an elective that can go towards the certificate in Indigenous Language Revitalization. Mary Siemens and Alice E Rabesca were the instructors who kept the students going with speaking, reading, writing and singing activities. Most students were sad that the course had to end.

The Language Department plans to have many more courses in the new fiscal year. Please keep an eye open for the next course to be offered in April 2021 tentatively planned to be out on the land.

We encourage all participants to continue with your language journey by staying in the language as much as possible. Spend time with people that only speak Tłı̨chǫ, use the Tłı̨chǫ words that you do know how to speak, find a buddy to stay in the language with and have fun with it! If you are working on reading and writing, practice, practice and practice. Find someone to read or write to and the more you practice, the better you will become in this skill. Best wishes to you on your language learning journey!
