Tłı̨chǫ Įmbè Program is entering its 11th year
The Tłı̨chǫ Įmbè Program is entering its 11th year. The Įmbè Program supports participants in each of the communities to learn about their culture and language from community Elders, spend time on the land, earn outdoor safety certificates and plan community service projects.
Last summer the program was able to go ahead with strict safety protocols in place. Safety is always our top priority and this year, despite access to vaccination in the NWT we are still going to need to keep Covid safety measures in place. This means no ‘overnight on the land trips’, and social distancing protocols for any indoor safety certificate programs.
It doesn’t mean that the Įmbè program won’t be fun. There are many amazing activities we can do including: traditional medicine gathering, making traditional crafts, clothing and tools, fishing and dryfish making, story telling, on the land day trips and much more.
We are starting to plan now and are hiring an Intern to run the program with support from staff at the Department of Culture and Lands Protection. This job is not limited to summer students so if you have ever thought about a career in outdoor and cultural programming, this is a great place to start. Experience in the Įmbè program is an asset but anyone can apply. We are looking for someone with drive and passion who will work hard to make this year’s program amazing.
