Stained glass mosaic art created by CJBS students and inspired by the sewing and beadwork of Tłı̨chǫ women have now been framed and installed in the windows of JESH. This beautiful display, the result of a collaboration with the TCSA, the Department of Culture and Lands Protection (DCLP) and the Prince of Wales Northern Heritage Centre (PWNHC) began with a museum visit in 2013 to view the work of Tłı̨chǫ women in their collection. Thirty-two CJBS art students created the mosaics that were displayed at the museum in 2014 and now have finally been framed and installed at JESH for the residents and visitors to enjoy.
The mosaics represent a small number of women but will be enjoyed by many who appreciate the beauty, workmanship and legacy of all Tłı̨chǫ women who have skillfully produced decorative clothing using caribou hide, quills, beads and embroidery.
An opening ceremony is planned for October, 2020 to celebrate the artworks and honour the work of Tłı̨chǫ women.
