TG Emergency Child Care for children of Essential Workers

Tłı̨chǫ Government provides emergency child care for children of Essential Workers

Behchokǫ̀, NT (May 04, 2020) – The Tłı̨chǫ Government will provide emergency child care in Behchokǫ̀ for essential and critical service workers working  to prevent the spread of COVID-19 during the territory-wide Public Health Emergency under the Emergency Management Act

The Tłı̨chǫ Government supports health care and frontline workers during the COVID-19 outbreak, and essential and critical service workers are committed in supporting our health care and our communities in these unprecedented times.

The Tłı̨chǫ Government is responding to a critical need for emergency daycare services in Behchokǫ̀ to meet the needs of essential and critical service workers.

This is NOT a regular daycare service, but one especially designed to stop the spread of the COVID-19 virus. The Chief Public Health Officer has NOT CLOSED daycare centres across the NWT, classifying them as essential services because of the invaluable role they play in caring for the children of medical and other critical staff during the COVID-19 pandemic.

If you are an essential services worker, you must be recommended for this service by your supervisor. It should also be noted, that this is a temporary emergency arrangement for as long as “pandemic lockdown conditions” are in force in the community. All health and safety directives and guidelines from the Chief Public Health Officer and the WSCC are being followed to ensure a high level of cleanliness and protection in the centre for both children and staff.

The safest option for families is to have children remain at home.
