Dzǫetsè (aka Jesse James), was born and raised in Behchoko, NWT. Dzǫetsè grew up speaking Tłįchǫ, and only learned English around the age of ten. It is through this language that he connects to his history, his family and his culture. While some songs are written in English, he considers his deeper and more meaningful songs to be sung in his first language.
Singing about his family, his hometown and the meaning of his relationship to the Tłįchǫ Nation, the songs are reflective of one man’s experience identifying as Tłįchǫ. It is a reflection of pride and ownership over his culture and language.
Under the leadership of Dzǫetsè (aka Jesse James), Digawolf has been actively producing and performing since 2010. The band is composed of Dzoetse (vocalist and lead guitar), TJ Buggins (Bass), and David Dowe (Percussion).
Their latest album Great Northern Man has been completed and is set for digital release on iTunes November 1st! CD release party has been scheduled for November 28th, at the Elks Club in Yellowknife, NT
One of their primary aims in creating this album was the utilization of the Tłįchǫ language, with the goal of creating music to encourage the next generation of Tłįchǫ speakers. They strive to inspire pride in the ability to speak an endangered language, and wish to prove that utilization of Tłįchǫ is the only means to achieve its conservation.
