Book Release: Adventures of a Priest Among the Tlicho People

Please note: The books will be available during the week of Monday December 16; one per household. Books will be sent to the outlying community Tlicho Government offices. In Behchoko they will be distributed through the schools. If you don’t have children in school please come to the TCSA office for your book.

David L. Matthews, the editor of this collection of stories, first met Father Amourous in Whati in fall of 1969. In late December that year, he and his wife, Mona joined the many Tlicho people on a single Otter flight to Behchoko to celebrate Christmas. That is when they first met Father Pochat. Over the years they had the pleasure of developing a close friendship with both priests.

This book is in memory of Father Jean Amourous and father Jean Pochat, and to the people of the Tlicho region amongst whom both priests lived for the majority of their stay in the Northwest Territories.

Through the understanding and appreciation of these stories, Tlicho today can get a glimpse of what life  was life amongst the Tlicho of yesterday.
