Wilderness Safety Training Program

Client Services Department held a summer session for the Wilderness Safety Training Program (WSTP) in Behchokǫ̀, NT. From May 21 to June 18, 2019.

Fifty (50) applications were received; Fourteen (14) individuals were selected to participate in the training. There were two sessions:

  1. Winter session held in October to December 2018, and
  2. Summer Session was from May 21 to June 18, 2019.

WSTP is designed and tailored to meet Tłı̨chǫ citizen needs. WSTP students will receive 12 certificates, which include the following:

  1. Canadian Firearms Safety Course Training. (Required to get your possession and Acquisition Licence (Formerly FAC).
  2. Wilderness First Aid
  3. Maps 1 & Maps 2, GPS Training
  4. Snowmobile safety and Maintenance
  5. Bear Safety
  6. Chainsaw Safety
  7. Ice Rescue
  8. Bear Guard
  9. Ice Rescue
  10. Swift Water Skills
  11. WFA Ice Rescue
  12. Health and Wellness
