Welcome Father Gerald (Mick aka) to St. Michael's Church

St. Michael’s Church in Behchokǫ̀ would like to introduce Father Gerald (Mick aka) Fleming, CSsR.   He is a redemptorists from the same religious community as Bishop Jon Hansen.  Father Mick was born and raised in St. John’s, Newfoundland on July 26, 1949, he is the second oldest of 11 children.

Father Gerald (Mick) Fleming was ordained on May 19, 1988 in St. John’s, Newfoundland and has been a priest for 33 year and has served in the leadership of his Redemptorist Province.

Before entering the priesthood, he worked in Youth Ministry and the finance workforce for 10 years.  He is a sports fanatic and play most sports, his favorite being hockey and basketball.  He still plays hockey, squash, basketball and softball.  He played hockey with the flying fathers for a number of seasons and he was also an owner, trainer and driver of harness racing horses and stopped racing when he was 64 years old.

In 2011 he came west to be the parish priest for Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, First Nation community in Saskatoon until 2016.  This is his third visit to the diocese.  While on sabbatical in 2016, he helped out in the Sahtu region for Easter.  In 2019, he spent ten months in the Delta region stationed in Inuvik until he was assigned by the Redemptorist community to St. Mary’s Parish in Saskatoon for a two year period.

He is 72 years old and instead of retiring, he wanted to come north to help out with Bishop Yon in our Diocese.  Now he is here with us in Behchokǫ̀ and he is very much looking forward to being a member of the leadership team here and working to develop our faith community.

Welcome Father Mick to our community and parish.
