Transitional Housing Construction in Edzo (Behchokǫ̀)
Transitional Housing Construction in Edzo (Behchokǫ̀)

The Tłı̨chǫ Government has secured federal funding from the Canadian Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) and Indigenous Services Canada (ISC) for the construction of a Transitional Home in the community of Behchokǫ̀, specifically in the Edzo area.

This 9-unit facility will provide safe and supportive housing for women and their children fleeing violence. It will be operated by the Tłı̨chǫ Community Services Agency.

The design phase is nearly complete, and the construction phase will begin soon in Summer 2025. The Tłı̨chǫ Government anticipates the project will be completed by Fall 2026.

The map below shows the planned location of the Transitional Home in Edzo.

Some highlights from the Transitional Home Project:

  • ARCAN Construction, in partnership with the Tłı̨chǫ Investment Corporation, will lead the design and construction phases of the project.
  • Associated Engineering is working closely with the Tłı̨chǫ Government to oversee project management and review mechanical, electrical, and structural documents throughout both the design and construction stages.
  • On Thursday, May 15, 2025 the existing basketball hoops in that location will be temporarily moved to Chief Jimmy Bruno School (CJBS) Skating Rink. A new and improved basketball court will be constructed in late August in a more centrally located area within CJBS
