During the week of March 22, 2021, Tłı̨chǫ Government held a signage meeting at the Johnny Nıtsıza Culture Centre. Due to covid-19 rules only 25 people could be ın attendance each day. To accommodate more people seeing and discussing the signs - individuals from Whatı̀ attended on the 23rd and 24th, and on the 2̀5th both Behchokǫ̀ and Whatı̀ residents attended. On Thursday, a student from the Whatì’s Mezı Community School also took part.
The purpose of the meeting was to:
- Verify the signs that were requested during the interviews done ın Whatı̀ ın October and November 2020;
- Ensure the Tłı̨chǫ spelling reflected the Whatı̀ dialect;
- Ensure both Tłı̨chǫ and English gave the same message;
- To verify the information boards that wıll be placed at the pull-offs.
After thoughtful discussions over the three days, 30 of the 40 original signs were approved as appropriate for the road. They will go to the Chiefs Executive Council for discussion and consideration. Researchers were: Allice Legat, Janelle Nitsiza, Marie Adele Rabesca, Samantha Migwi and Eva Beaverho.
