The Tłı̨chǫ Government and the Chief’s Executive Council would like to congratulate the Premier Elect of the Northwest Territories, R.J. Simpson.
As a self-government, the ongoing relationship and collaboration between the Tłı̨chǫ Government and the Government of the Northwest Territories, as Treaty Partners, is critical to ensure the implementation of our modern Treaty, and to achieve outcomes for Tłı̨chǫ people, communities and lands that strengthen Tłı̨chǫ well-being, language, culture and way of life.
Tłı̨chǫ Government has shared some of our key priorities with all Members of the Legislative Assembly including:
- Closing the infrastructure gap for Tłı̨chǫ communities
- Promoting economic development, diversification, Tłı̨chǫ traditional economy, and self-sufficiency
- Supporting Tłı̨chǫ-led solutions to addictions, healing, wellness, and community safety
- Co-developing solutions to housing and food insecurity
- Reviewing land and resource legislation and regulations to better meet the needs of communities and industry
- Completing land management initiatives such as Dinàgà Wek’èhodì and the Wek’èezhıı Land Use Plan
- Negotiating intergovernmental agreements to advance Tłı̨chǫ self-governance and implementation of Tłı̨chǫ jurisdiction
We are looking forward to working with Mr. Simpson and the 20th Legislative Assembly to build collaborative intergovernmental solutions to the pressing issues facing our territory.
