Tłı̨chǫ All-Season Road Wins Global Best Project
We are proud to announce that the Tłı̨chǫ All-Season Road has been named a Global Best Project by Engineering News-Record (ENR) in the road/highway category.

As the developer, concessionaire, design-builder, and operations and maintenance service provider on this public-private partnership project, Kiewit’s scope of work included managing the project through development and a successful financial close on the front end and into execution. The scope also included designing and constructing the replacement of a winter-only ice road with an all-season gravel road that connects the town of Whatì to the Yellowknife Highway.

The project involved four bridges, 12 other water crossing structures, a 97-kilometer gravel road and traffic and wildlife management tasks during construction and operations. The project also includes a 25-year operations period. Since opening the road, the team operating and maintaining the project, under the guidance of Kiewit, has been comprised of local Tłı̨chǫ citizens. The main purpose of the road is to improve the quality of life and community access for citizens in the Tłı̨chǫ lands year-round.

This award recognizes project teams that recently completed successful design and construction efforts across the world. Safety performance, teamwork and overcoming challenges were all factors included in the award consideration. The project is also one of three finalists for ENR’s overall Global Project of the Year award, which will be announced next month.
Congratulations to our project team, our partner, the Tłı̨chǫ Government, and our client, the Government of Northwest Territories, on this recognition!
