In early June 2015, aerial reconnaissance, composition and photo-surveys were completed on the calving grounds of the Bluenose-East and Bathurst barren-ground caribou herds. From 2-9 June, survey crews were stationed out of Kugluktuk, NU and out of the Ekati Mine site, with surveys led by Environment and Natural Resources staff. Survey crews included representatives from the Government of Nunavut, the Tłįchǫ Government, NWT Métis Nation, Wek’èezhìı Renewable Resources Board, North Slave Métis Alliance, Łutsel K'e First Nation, and Yellowknives Dene First Nation.
The survey results are not yet know. But the Tłįchǫ Government is working with the GNWT to get the results as quickly as possible to the communities.
