The Tibbitt to Contwoyto Winter Road Joint Venture is advising the public of a winter storm that will be affecting the northern section of the Winter Road. A weather front with heavy snowfall and very high winds will hit the Winter Road starting on Wednesday evening (March 31, 2021) through to Saturday afternoon (April 3, 2021). All Winter Road travelers should cancel their travel plans or leave the Winter Road if they are already on it.

Those remaining on the Winter Road during the storm will be exposed to severe weather conditions. The re-opening of the Winter Road will be substantially delayed due to the expected snowfall and subsequent blocking of the road with snowdrifts. The Joint Venture will be suspending all Winter Road traffic by late Wednesday night and withdrawing its crews back to the camps.

The Winter Road will close to public traffic for the season at Midnight on April 6, 2021. After that date the Joint Venture will conducting work on Portage 14 (north of Dome Lake) which will make the road impassable for public travel.
