The Chiefs Executive Council hosted the new Minister of Northern Affairs, Dan Vandal, the Premier of the Northwest Territories, Caroline Cochrane, and Member of Parliament for the Western Arctic, Michael McLeod, in Behchokǫ̀ on Wednesday January 15th, 2020.
The visit included a community tour and visits to houses in the community to allow the Minister and Premier to see first-hand the state of the housing crisis in Tłı̨chǫ communities. The leaders talked about how to address this crisis and the need for resources and partnerships to make real on the ground action happen. The Chiefs also spoke to the Minister about the importance of the ongoing implementation of the self-government fiscal policy to ensure appropriate funding for the Tłı̨chǫ Government to carry out its responsibilities under the Tłı̨chǫ Agreement.
