Intergovernmental meeting between Tłįchǫ Government and GNWT

Wekweѐtì (September 25, 2015) – Members of the Executive Councils of the Tłįchǫ Government and the 17th Legislative Assembly met together September 22, 2015, as agreed to in ‘Working Together – the Tłįchǫ Government/Government of the Northwest Territories Intergovernmental Memorandum of Understanding’(Working Together).

During the meeting the parties agreed to undertake the following work:

  • Continue to discuss matters related to health and social services on a government-to-government basis
  • Work collaboratively to have Wellness Funds flow to the Tłįchǫ Government
  • Continue working to find solutions to the homecare funding issue
  • Work collaboratively to advance the All-Weather Road to Whatì initiative
  • Ensure the distribution of information on quality assurance procedures
  • Continue discussions and evaluate the Business Development Officer position in Behchokǫ̀ to the Tłįchǫ Government
  • Continue working together to better understand the decline of caribou herds and to protect calving grounds

The meeting also focused on areas of mutual interest, including:

  • Murdered and Missing Aboriginal Women and Girls
  • Aboriginal Children in Care
  • Housing
  • Aurora College Expansion
  • Intergovernmental Service Agreement
  • TCSA T4 Issue
  • Barren-ground Caribou Survey Results

Working Together recognizes the importance of the government-to-government relationship between the Tłįchǫ Government and the GNWT. This was the fifth meeting between the two governments since it was initially signed in June 2012. It commits both governments to meet twice per year.
