Tłı̨chǫ Government, Client Services Department, Victim Services, held an Impaired Driving Awareness for Youths All-Nighter event March 25-26, 2023 (9:00 pm – 9:00 am), in Behchoko at the KO GOCHO Sports Centre.
Participation in the event was based on a free application process, with 112 applications received. Fifty individuals were selected to participate through the “first to arrive” method of selection.
The Impaired Driving Awareness All-Nighter was created to provide a safe and healthy space for Tłı̨chǫ youth to participate and engage with their peers over the course of an evening. Throughout the event they competed to win prizes, acquired new skills, learned about impaired driving from staff and guest speakers, and had plenty of fun.
At the beginning of the evening, a questionnaire was provided to participants to better understand their overall perspective on impaired driving. At the end of the event, a second questionnaire was distributed to ask participating youths follow-up questions about impaired driving and to help gauge how successfully the event helped to inform them.
