DCLP Lands Regulator, Tyanna Steinwand, and Lands Protection Manager, Jessica Hum, travelled to Toronto for the Federal Contaminated Sites National Workshop. Hosted by the Real Property Institute of Canada from June 13-15, 2018 at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre, the workshop is a forum for the contaminated sites community to learn about technical, scientific and organizational innovations, and best practices for the management of contaminated sites.
The Tłı̨chǫ Government has long been involved in the remediation of the former Rayrock uranium mine and its' appointees to the Kwetı̨ı̨ɂaà Elders Committee have participated in many workshops with the Government of Canada for remedial option selection and remedial action planning. TG staff along with Arcadis Canada, Michael Weber, co-presented on 'Indigenous Involvement in the Rayrock (Kwetı̨ı̨ɂaà) Remediation Project'.
The presentation covered stewardship of the land and how this aligns with remediation, Tłı̨chǫ Contaminated Sites Management graduates' involvement in the 2017 Rayrock field season, and the future of environmental monitoring at Kwetı̨ı̨ɂaà.
