The Tłı̨chǫ Government in partnership with INAC-CARD (Indigenous and Northern Affairs Canada – Contaminants and Remediation Division) and Tłı̨chǫ Construction held a four week work-to-learn program out at the former Colomac Mine Site for student-workers from Whatì, and Gamètì in October.
The four weeks were broken into two parts, with students working two week rotations. Wildlife monitors were also hired by Tłı̨chǫ Construction to keep everyone safe onsite. The student-workers completed hands on training provided by Tłı̨chǫ Construction, Stantec and BluMetric in a variety of construction/environmental monitoring work such as excavator operating, monitoring well capping and caribou and wetland berm building.
To celebrate all the hard work the student-workers have done, Tłı̨chǫ Government and INAC-CARD held a Feeding of the Fire and graduation ceremony where students were presented with completion certificates to take home. We are very proud of and thankful for the students who completed this important work out at Colomac. Congratulations to the following participants:
