Chiefs Executive Council visits Tłı̨chǫ Highway

Tłı̨chǫ Chiefs recently visited the construction site of the future Tłı̨chǫ Highway to Whatı̀. The Chiefs drove the road to the north side of Whatı̀, crossing the newly constructed bridge over the river. At the falls Tłı̨chǫ Chiefs shared a lunch with Tłı̨chǫ Citizens and Kiewit management working on the road.

“This project is employing more Tłı̨chǫ Citizens than any of the required targets, providing contracts to our companies,  and is well on schedule to provide all season connection to one of our remote communities” said Grand Chief George Mackenzie.

Chief Nitsiza stated “Within a year our community will be able to enjoy the many benefits of being on the road system….changes will come and we are preparing for those. I am proud to see so many Tłı̨chǫ people building this road, and we are excited by the many future opportunities this project will bring such as fibre into Whatı̀.”

The Tłı̨chǫ Highway is scheduled to open in November 2021.
