Tłı̨chǫ Chiefs, Citizens, and Communities mourn the loss of our community member Dan Marion. Dan has been a part of our communities for many years. Whether it be as a Councilor and later Mayor of Rae-Edzo Hamlet Council, owner of the water and sewage business, through one of his numerous roles within our economic development organizations, or his many positions at the territorial level, Dan was tireless in his pursuit of improved living conditions for Tłı̨chǫ people and communities.
Tłı̨chǫ relied on Dan for his business experience and his ability to communicate the Tłı̨chǫ economic interest with other business leaders so it was no surprise when Dan was asked by the Tłı̨chǫ Government to serve as the first President of the Tłı̨chǫ Investment Corporation, a position he held until 2010. He was instrumental in setting up the new corporation as part of the implementation of the Tłı̨chǫ Agreement. When Dan was President of this umbrella company with many subsidiaries and corporate connections to mining and industry in the NWT, his door was always open to listen to the concerns of Tłı̨chǫ citizens and company executives alike.
Dan’s presence can still be felt throughout our communities, projects he has led, people whose lives he touched through mentoring and encouragement, or just as a friend or family member. Dan was a part of our family, and to the family, he has left behind, the Tłı̨chǫ Nation is with you. As we always do at times of loss, know that we will gather with you in-person, and if not in-person you are all in our hearts and prayers.
The impact that Dan has had on the Tłı̨chǫ region is significant, he has been a consistent ally and advocate for the Tłı̨chǫ.
Thank you Dan, for all you have done for the Tłı̨chǫ Nation.
