Behchokǫ̀ – Share your views on internet services in the NWT

Facebook, Twitter, Google: the list goes on… Digital technologies and the Internet are becoming bigger parts of our lives every day.
The COVID-19 pandemic has increased our use of these digital tools to access education, health care, government services, and banking – as well as to connect with one another.
But not everyone can access computers or cell phones. As well, some people may have trouble connecting to the Internet. Maybe it is slow or unreliable, or Internet services are too expensive to pay for. People may face data caps when they use up their Internet or cell phone data before the month ends.
The Government of Canada (Canadian Radio-Television and Telecommunications Commission) wants to hear from you about these issues. They are asking Northerners what they think about the quality of Internet, wireless and telephone services – are they accessible, affordable and reliable?
The Commission is currently reviewing the rules that Northwestel must follow when providing services in the North. Information about your Internet and telephone services will help the Commission better understand issues and challenges – and will help them update the rules to ensure that services are available at affordable rates – both now and into the future. The Commission can only work with the information that you send,  here are a few ways you can do that:
  1. Visit the CRTC website and share your ideas online. DigitalNWT will be offering an online workshop to demonstrate how you can do this.
  2. Write a letter to the Secretary General with your ideas and input. Mail a letter to: Secretary General, CRTC, Ottawa, Ontario, K1N 0N2.
  3. Send a Fax. The fax number is: 819-994-0218
  4. Participate in an Online Survey from DigitalNWT. Here is the link:

DigitalNWT is a project on the MakeWay shared platform and led by Tłı̨chǫ Government, Inuvialuit Regional Corporation, Sahtú Renewable Resources Board, and Gwich'in Tribal Council. Project partners are: University of Alberta, Computers for Schools NWT, and Aurora College.
The DigitalNWT team has developed a survey that asks questions related to digital technologies and the Internet. This research will be presented to the Commission to help answer some of the questions above. It will also help DigitalNWT develop free courses in your community about computers and the Internet, and contribute to research articles.
Complete the survey at:
