YELLOWKNIFE October 27, 2021 – The number of individuals with active COVID-19 in Behchokǫ̀ continues to decrease, but there is concern that the COVID-19 is not resolving as quickly as expected. Earlier this afternoon, after the 9:00AM cut off for our daily case numbers, individuals tested positive for COVID-19 in Behchokǫ̀, some of these COVID-19 infections had no clear chain of transmission. All this indicates to the Chief Public Health Officer (CPHO) that community transmission continues and risks the health and safety of residents.
After consulting with local leadership in the Community of Behchokǫ̀, the Office of the Chief Public Health Officer (OCPHO) is announcing an extension to the Behchokǫ̀ Temporary COVID-19 Restrictions through to 11:59PM on November 08, 2021.
Full details on the order will be available on the GNWT COVID-19 website under the Current Public Health Orders: https://www.gov.nt.ca/covid-19/en/current-public-health-orders.
The OCPHO continues to work closely with the Tłı̨chǫ Government, the Tłı̨chǫ Community Services Agency (TCSA) and the COVID Secretariat on the response to the COVID-19 activity in the community.
The CPHO would like to remind all residents that the most important thing they can do to protect themselves from severe outcomes from COVID-19 is to get vaccinated. All residents 12 years of age and older who have not yet received two doses of the vaccination should make arrangements to get fully vaccinated.
