Why report your harvest?
By volunteering to report your harvest you will help us understand the impact of the Tłı̨chǫ Highway on tǫdzı (boreal caribou), hozìı ekwǫ (barren ground caribou), and dedıı̀ (moose).
The harvester reporting program is part of the Tłı̨chǫ Highway Wildlife Monitoring Program. This program is run by the Tłı̨chǫ Government, Department of Culture and Lands Protection (DCLP) to monitor the impacts of the highway on wildlife and their habitat.
The Tłı̨chǫ highway monitoring program
During the environmental assessment for the highway, Tłı̨chǫ members expressed concern about the impact of the new road on wildlife, especially tǫdzı, hozìı ekwǫ, and dedıı̀.
In response to these concerns, the Tłı̨chǫ Government has worked closely with Elders and harvesters to develop the Tłı̨chǫ Highway Monitoring Program to track the health of habitats and wildlife populations along the highway.
Part of the monitoring program involves hunters reporting what they see on the land, and providing some details about the animals harvested.
Reminder to harvesters
Do not shoot alongside or from the Tłı̨chǫ Highway.
Please use care when hunting in the area, as there are cabins built along the Tłı̨chǫ Highway.
