Celebrating the Third Annual Tłı̨chǫ Research Expo

(December 11, 2024) – The third annual Tłı̨chǫ Research Expo was held in Behchokǫ̨̀̀, NT on December 11,2024. The event was hosted by Tłı̨chǫ Government’s Department of Culture and Lands Protection – Dedats’eetsaa, the Tłı̨chǫ Research and Training Institute. The purpose of this event is to share information about research projects that are happening within Wek'èezhìi and with Tłı̨chǫ people. The morning was filled with an assortment of activities that included:

  • Research exhibits
  • Remarks from the Director of DCLP, Tammy Steinwand-Deschambeault
  • Sewing with Elders
  • Swag bags and shirts were given out (Alicia Camille, Kasandra Migwi)
  • Exploration bingo and door prizes
  • Traditional lunch and snacks (Louisa Mackenzie, Albina Nitsiza, Lena Adzin)

There were 20 projects highlighted at the expo. The topics included the following:

  • Northwest Territories Biodiversity Monitoring Program: Tłı̨chǫ land Įłaà negetsà-lıa et’ıì hoghàgetǫǫ xèhoòwı: Celebrating Families Project and Etaehti: Tłı̨chǫ Interpreters Project
  • Climate Change Adaptation through Ice Monitoring and Information Sharing in the Tłı̨chǫ region
  • Advancing impact assessment for Canada’s Socio-ecological systems: Mining in Northern Indigenous Lands
  • Community-defined and Monitored Indicators of Recovery in Barren-ground Caribou
  • Traditional Placenames  
  • Tłı̨chǫ Highway Socio-Economic Monitoring and Tłı̨chǫ Highway Wildlife Monitoring
  • Ekwǫ̀ Nàxoèdee K’è
  • Artless Collective: Wekweeti Storytelling Festival, Virtual Trails
  • Community-based aquatic monitoring programs: MWSP/TAEMP/DAEMP
  • Mentor-Apprentice Program
  • Hotıì ts’eeda NWT SPOR Support Unit: A Year in Review
  • Wek’èezhìı Forest Management Draft Plan
  • Gonàowoò: The Tłı̨chǫ Lens
