Whati and Gameti remain open for night-time driving only, but

may close with little or no advance warning.  Travel remains restricted to Night Travel Only.  (10:00PM to 10:00AM)  Updates will be provided when conditions change.

Please watch for and slow down at a single-lane overflow section near kilometer 70 of the Whati Winter Road.   Please also watch for rough areas caused by softening portages as well as narrow sections on lakes.  

In determining the necessity of closing the winter road, the Department conducts an analysis that includes, public safety, existing road conditions, current and forecasted weather conditions, overflow on creeks, portages and lakes, adequate snow cover on portages and other factors that affect the environment.

The Wekweètì Winter Road is closed for the season.

Please use caution when travelling on all Northwest Territories Winter Roads and watch for and slow down at rough and slippery sections.  Please watch for overflows and soft areas.  Please ensure you bring extra food and winter survival gear when you travel on any winter road and that a responsible person knows when you left and when you are expected to arrive at your destination.
